Editorial Style Marketing Photography for Doylestown Hospital

This editorial style marketing photography project for Penn Medicine at Doylestown Hospital highlights the many ways volunteers support patient care and daily hospital operations through authentic, story-driven imagery.

I photographed a story written by Olivia Kimmel that highlights the many roles volunteers play within a hospital setting. From delivering mail and answering phone calls to guiding patients to transportation, these volunteers form an essential support system. As a result, they help keep daily operations running smoothly while also grounding patient experiences in care.

This assignment carried extra weight. It was one of the first pieces Penn Medicine published for Doylestown Hospital, which recently joined their network. Because of this, the goal was twofold: to honor a long-standing local volunteer program and to introduce Doylestown’s story to a broader Penn Medicine audience.

Working inside a hospital presented both logistical and emotional challenges. For example, I needed to schedule shoots around volunteer shifts while also respecting patient privacy. In addition, I had to remain sensitive in active healthcare environments. At the same time, balancing the authenticity of an editorial story with the needs of a marketing publication added another layer of complexity.

To address this, I focused on creating images that felt honest and human, yet still aligned with Penn’s brand voice. Instead of staging moments, I relied on observation. I worked quietly, built trust, and allowed genuine moments to unfold naturally.

Ultimately, this project was about connection. It highlighted the relationships between volunteers and patients, as well as the connection between Doylestown and Penn. More importantly, it captured the quiet moments of service that make a hospital feel like a true community.
