Community Storytelling Photo and Video for PA Humanities

This community storytelling photo and video project documents PA Humanities’ Rain Poetry workshop series and public reveal event in Reading, Pennsylvania. Through photography and video, the project captures youth voices, public art, and meaningful community connection.

Community Storytelling Through Workshops

For this assignment, I produced, photographed, and edited coverage of both the workshops and the final public celebration. The goal was to capture the creative process, the excitement of the students, and the emotional impact of seeing their words come to life in public spaces.

Because the project centered on youth voices and community pride, the imagery needed to feel honest, energetic, and welcoming. At the same time, the final visuals needed to support marketing, fundraising, and storytelling for PA Humanities.

Photo and Video Coverage of the Public Reveal

The public reveal transformed sidewalks and gathering spaces into interactive art. Families, neighbors, and students gathered as hidden poems appeared with water, creating spontaneous reactions and moments of connection.

As a result, the photography focused on expressions, movement, and the shared experience of discovery. Rather than stage scenes, I worked observationally and allowed authentic moments to unfold naturally.

Multimedia Storytelling for Nonprofits

The project required flexibility across multiple locations, changing weather, and a fast-paced event environment. In addition, collaboration with organizers, teaching artists, and community partners was essential throughout the day.

Ultimately, this rain poetry photography project highlights how public art, youth creativity, and community engagement can intersect in meaningful ways. The final photographs and video celebrate the voices of young poets while reflecting PA Humanities’ mission to create connection through culture and learning.
