Girlhood, and what it means to be photographed

Today I heard someone talking about how girlhood in 2024 is fleeting, if existent at all. It’s also contrived and presumptuous, sometimes imposed by placing silencing concepts of womanhood on young children. But just when I started wondering if that could be true, young, loved, powerful girls proved to me it’s real and has no bounds.

Amidst the chaos and uncertainty of 2024, there exists a timeless essence of girlhood that transcends the constraints of any particular era.

As a photographer, I've had the privilege of seeing and documenting this. I’ve witnessed the laughter, the tears, the moments of quiet contemplation, and most of all, the bursts of boundless energy that define girlhood in all its complexity and strength. Through it all, one thing remains abundantly clear: girlhood in 2024 is not only alive and well but thriving in ways that are both inspiring and profound.

Take a look here at a few moments of girlhood I’ve witnessed with my own family in early 2024.
